Sure too soon

Confidence often rises faster than knowledge. A topic you have just met can feel clear, while a specialist hedges, and a later test shows the gap. A small sample does the same work for a product: seventy percent of ten people is a story about ten people. Overconfidence here is not a personality type. It is a mismatch between how sure you feel and how much you have seen. Ask what would change the percentage, and how many cases are underneath it.

Cognitive bias

Overconfidence

Overconfidence is certainty that outruns the evidence, common when someone has just met a subject and cannot yet see its difficulties. Specialists often hedge because they can see the ways a claim fails. High confidence is not high competence.
