Terms of use
Last updated 25 October 2026.
1. Who we are
CritThinker (critthinker.com) is run by Scott Cook, a sole trader in the UK, trading as CritThinker. "We" and "us" mean Scott Cook. You can contact us at Scottcook10@outlook.com.
By using CritThinker, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
2. What CritThinker is
CritThinker is an educational practice tool for critical thinking. The quotes, guides, questions, explanations and scores are for learning and general information only. They are not legal, medical, financial, psychological or other professional advice. Don't rely on them to make important decisions.
3. Scores, the CT Test and the Certificate
Scores, bands, levels, Mastery Tests, the Beta CT Score and the CritThinker Certificate are self-assessments made by our own questions. They are not an accredited qualification, a diagnosis, or a measure of general intelligence, and they are not recognised by any awarding or professional body. The CT Test is in beta: its scoring is provisional and may change.
4. Accounts
You don't need an account to use most of CritThinker. If you create one, you must be 13 or over, give a real email address and keep your password safe. You're responsible for what happens under your account. You can delete your account at any time from your account page. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
5. Acceptable use
Please don't:
- break the law, or use the site to harass or harm anyone
- try to get into accounts or parts of the site you're not allowed into, or disrupt the site
- scrape, copy or republish the question bank or large parts of the site, or use automated tools to take the tests
- try to cheat the CT Test, Mastery Tests or the Certificate, or pass off another person's result as yours
6. Content and quotes
The site's design, text, questions, explanations and software belong to us, unless we say otherwise. You may share links and short extracts with credit to CritThinker. Quotes belong to their authors or are in the public domain. We give a source and an attribution label for each quote and correct them when we find errors. If you think a quote, source or translation is wrong, or that we've used your material without permission, email Scottcook10@outlook.com and we'll look at it promptly.
7. Beta, free use and future paid plans
CritThinker is in beta. It's free to use, and features may change, move or stop. We may add paid plans in future. If we do, we'll tell you clearly before anything costs money, and nothing you're using will be charged for without your agreement. Paid plans will have their own terms.
8. Availability
We try to keep CritThinker running and accurate, but we provide it "as is" and can't promise it will always be available, error-free or secure, or that saved progress can never be lost. Progress kept only in your browser is lost if you clear your browser data.
9. Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law. Otherwise, as CritThinker is free, we're not liable for any indirect loss, loss of data, loss of profit or loss of opportunity, and our total liability to you is limited to £100. If you're a consumer, you also keep your legal rights.
10. Your privacy
Our Privacy notice explains what we collect and why: critthinker.com/privacy.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and tell you on the site if a change matters. If you keep using CritThinker after a change, the new terms apply.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring a claim in your local courts.
